An Ode to MLK Jr

Elizabeth Mitchell

You gave your life because of your dream

That one day equality would reign supreme

A world where success was based on merit and heart

Instead of race tearing people apart

Your views made you hated by some

But you stood tall despite the violence that was to come

The violence used by your haters caused you rage

But you continued to use your words to inspire positive change

People tried to silence you

But your civil rights movement would ensue

Even after your assassination

Your words continued to inspire your nation
