Meet a Lion: Mr. Matthew Denvir

Ophelia Reid

If you stumble across a World Literature and Composition II, Journalism, Creative Writing, or Global Media Analysis class here at Tallwood high school, you will meet Mr. Denvir.

“I really like it here. I feel like I’ve been learning the ropes for the past two years, but this is a great place to work,” stated Mr. Matthew Denvir.

“I’ve always liked reading and writing, so that part of my job is easy,” Mr. Denvir stated.

Not all students are naturally interested in reading and writing. Some may give up before they even try. So to make lesson plans more interesting, Mr.Denvir said, “Sometimes I ask my wife to help me plan a lesson, because she has good ideas.”

“All students deserve to learn,” Mr. Denvir stated.

This belief impels him to deal with the varying groups of students everyday. Plus, as he noted, “It’s really interesting to help students organize their thoughts while writing.”

“He’s really a good teacher. Before Journalism, I never found writing fun or enjoyable. But now that I write for the school newspaper, he made it possible,” stated Sydney Mckissick, a Sophomore at Tallwood.

“I also like doing a job that is important, because it’s important to read and write well,” stated Mr.Denvir.

“I was always a good English student in school,” he said. “I like reading different stories about different people, like a book.”

Mr. Denvir chooses to be himself, a teacher who teaches students, one who likes stories and funny (or sometimes not so funny) jokes.

He is someone who does what he can for himself, his family, and the students at Tallwood.

“Teaching is challenging, but it’s never boring” Mr. Denvir stated. “It’s fun.”
