lack of endearment

Brianna Lebeck

everyone craves affection,

but often times you give more than you receive.

you give more time,

more thought,

more care,

more love,

more support.

there’s nothing in the world you could do for it in return,

but you still crave it.

you stay up late at night crying for it.

you wake up in the morning thinking about it.

you try to reach out and grasp it with your hands

like it’s a butterfly flying through the wind.

yet it hasn’t come.

nor will it ever.

eventually you’ll find someone new.

think this time is different.

this time they will care about you as much as you care about them.

this time they will put you first like you do them.

of course this is all just your over optimistic mind wishing to see the good in people,

even when there’s none to see.

you end up in the same position you were in before.

waiting around for messages,

laying in bed thinking about them.

and quite frankly, they couldn’t care less.
