Dress Code Should be Fairly Administered
May 16, 2017
The Tallwood dress code seems mainly tailored to girl students. For example, girls wearing jeans with holes are more likely to get called out or told to change than a boy with the same type of pants. If both cases are going against student dress code, then why are female students mostly paying the price?
Secondly, going around school, many male students are starting to wear shorts as short as some female students. Now, male students can go a whole school day wearing these clothing items, but as soon as a girl is spotted, she is sent to the clinic or a bathroom until the issue is remedied. Girls shouldn’t be the only ones getting penalized for dress code violations when boys are doing the same exact thing.
If student education is so important, why send a student away from it? The time taken to go to these areas could be spent in an class learning.
Some people could say the school should be harsher on girls than boys because girls’ clothes can be more distracting. But boys’ clothing can be as distracting as girls. So it’s not fair that girls are more often punished for being “distracting.”
We should have rules, but they must apply to all students equally. Do we really think female students should be treated differently?
