As of 2017, Tallwood is ranked 39th among all High Schools across the state of Virginia.

In a database research conducted by usnews.com, it was found that out of 339 High schools in Virginia, that Tallwood reaches 39th. In 2015 Tallwood High school was ranked 81st, and in 2016 Tallwood was 80th.

Dr. James Avila, Tallwood High Principal said, “This is great news! We lead the division in so many categories.”

In the past two years, Tallwood has surpassed other high schools in key areas.

“We are making a name for our school in several ways: in graduation rates, Advanced Placement tests, and Advanced Placement scores; instructional leadership, athletics, and student leadership,” Dr. Avila stated.

Unfortunately, Tallwood does trail behind two other Virginia Beach schools.

Dr. Avila says, “We were just behind PA [Princess Anne] and OL [Ocean Lakes], but we will make gains on these two schools! I am very proud of our accomplishments!”

In the near future, hopefully Tallwood will climb the ranks and become number one in the state of Virginia.

“Tallwood should be number 1,” said Dr. Avila.
