Tallwood’s Many Language Teachers a Dedicated, Diverse Group

Tallwood High School has an excellent World Language Department. World Language is a group of languages known or spoken in many countries, and\or an artificial language for international use.

Tallwood High School currently offers more than seven foreign languages. With all the languages in the world, there seems no limit to Tallwood’s World Language class of the future.

Too many languages, is that really a problem? Well, compared to many other schools, we have many languages and well-educated teachers.

“My goal in life at Tallwood is to be the best teacher that I can be. I do that by bringing the language of Spanish alive and making it fun for my students to learn,” said Shawnda D. Hinton, a Spanish teacher at Tallwood.

“We follow the guidelines and we provide a lot of richness and culture,” stated Wan Zhang, a Chinese teacher at Tallwood.

“Everybody’s different … I believe in everybody’s potential,” said Julie Satoh, a Japanese teacher at Tallwood.

“I’m a teacher, I’m a mom, I’m a wife, I’m a grandmother and a singer,” expressed Lisa Walborn, a French teacher at Tallwood.

“I respect (students) and they respect me. I have been teaching for sixteen years and have had the awesome opportunity to build lasting relationships with students that have lasted beyond graduation,” said Shawnda Hinton, a Spanish teacher at Tallwood.

“Well she’s a good teacher, she’s approachable and very sassy when she needs to be,” stated Gina Loredo, a Senior at Tallwood, who was stating what she thought of Fatima Zahraoui, an Arabic teacher at Tallwood.

“I feel like another ‘mom’ for most of my students, and I enjoy working with some of the best teaching colleagues in Virginia Beach. I see myself as hard-working and committed,” said Michele Osborne, Latin teacher.

Tallwood students have a wide range of choices when it comes to learning a second language, or a third. Therefore, any student wishing to expand their knowledge in world languages would definitely benefit by attending Tallwood High School.
