Social Media Facilitates Bullying

Caitlyn Anderson

Self-esteem, wrongdoing, and fear are all associated when it comes to social media. Cyber-bullying is a real problem and is increased by the day. Therefore, I believe we need to make it known to all that there is a way to help prevent social media attacks and also gain knowledge about social media.

Eight out of ten people are cyber-bullied on Facebook, and that’s just the beginning. There are so many social media outlets that people are getting harassed or even more through these apps. Without protecting yourself, you too could be attacked.

On Instagram alone 100 suicides were attempted, and that’s all because of some pictures or even some nasty comments. People never seem to take the time to think before they post. According to nobullying.com, 4,440 young people commit suicide each year because of something related to social media.

I do see how people could just have deleted social media after a nasty comment or picture was shared, but that nasty comment is already running through that person’s head. It seems as easy as deleting social media, yet rumors are spread about what was posted or people ask questions to that person. It seems like there is no way out for the victims of the bullying.

Do you think before you post? If not, that’s something to think about. To help fix this problem, come listen to my broadcast on YouTube (episode 8 and 12). See Mr. Demott for more information.
