The Big Three Lead Lion’s Baseball in the Right Direction

With three college bound players, Lion’s Baseball is heading in the right direction.

Polk State (JUCO) commit Miles Watson calling the game behind the plate at catcher, Potomac State (JUCO) commit Juwuan Weaver in center-field, and Hagerstown commit (JUCO) NIck Yarrington manning the hot corner at third-base.

With a college commit at each level of the game from behind the plate, in the infield, and the outfield, it provides a little more leadership within the team, not to mention it speaks for the talent among the players.

“When you have players going to the next level, it inspires the younger guys to work hard so they can do the same. As a team we’ve been working more as a family, everybody wants everybody to do good, and that’s what a REAL team is,” said Watson when asked about the team’s recent gelling.

The team also went down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to participate in the Mingo Bay Spring Break Classic.

Defensively, Juwan Weaver and Nick Yarrington both played great. Miles Watson served as the “field general,” so to speak, and did his job when his name was called.

“I was a leader, defensively and offensively. I moved runners and brought some runners in too,” said Watson when asked about his play.

Dylan Muniz seemed to have the biggest impact on the team during the weeks play, coming up every way except short.

“His bat was great, and he also excelled in the field defensively. He did it all; he’s the whole package,” said the Polk State commit, Miles Watson.

Despite their last place standing in the conference at 6-5, the team went undefeated in the tournament but missed the championship due to scheduling issues. Hopefully, this recent out-of-state success gives the Lion’s the momentum needed to get back into the hunt for the postseason.
