“Revenant” Astonishes

Revenant+Astonishes

Heine Pham, Staff Writer

The Revenant, staring Leonardo DiCaprio, is about Hugh Glass who gets attacked by a bear while hunting in the woods. Close to death, most of his crew leave him behind except his son, Jim Bridger, and antagonist John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Eventually John kills the son, igniting Hugh’s thirst for revenge. Hugh is left for “dead” and goes through many obstacles such as Indians, food shortages, and freezing climate to avenge his son. The ending of the film has a little plot twist which will have you captivated.

The movie itself has great special effects involving nature, such as the bear scene. Everything looks very realistic and is astonishing, Alejandro González Iñárritu the director of the film does a great job of getting the perfect shots. Considering the movie was shot in harsh natural conditions, he captures everything perfectly.

DiCaprio’s acting is truly remarkable.  He did an amazing job playing such a complex character. I believe that this was the hardest role he has ever played in his career, and that this is the year that DiCaprio finally wins an Academy Award for the role of Hugh Glass.

As a person who does not typically enjoy westerns, I can honestly say that this movie was very enjoyable and entertaining to watch.
