Mr. Jason Ordonio, one of Tallwood High School’s Personal Finance and Economics teacher, is well-loved by students and staff for his friendly demeanor and openness.

Mr. Ordonio was born in Norfolk, Virginia on March 12, 1983 at DePaul Hospital. He went to Princess Anne High School and graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. Mr. Ordonio began his career at Ocean Lakes High School, but was soon transferred to Tallwood High School and has been here ever since 2012.

Eva Valdez, Tallwood High School sophomore, shared her perspective of Mr. Ordonio’s teaching style as a current student of his class.

“He’s a logical teacher. He’s not afraid to sometimes go against what he’s expected to do because he wants to make sure that we actually learn, and that we’re not bored out of our minds in class.”

As a Personal Finance and Economics teacher, Mr. Ordonio stated that having young adults understand the importance of financial concepts is one of the many challenges that he faces. Teaching students the significance of money can be a difficult task. However, Mr. Ordonio works diligently to teach his students healthy financial habits, which he does successfully.

“I like how he’s very open about topics and easy to talk to, like he doesn’t have a weird uncomfortable vibe; it’s very welcoming,” said Jayden Anthony, Tallwood High School senior.

Despite being a commemorable teacher, Mr. Ordonio can be recognized as a trusted adult as well by numerous students. He has a pleasant and considerate energy that allows students to be friendly with Mr. Ordonio.

“I consistently have to remind myself that every interaction I have is with someone of value,” said Mr. Ordonio.

Many students and staff can almost always expect a fulfilling conversation from Mr. Ordonio. He is a conversational wizard. Anyone could come up to Mr. Ordonio with any conversation topic, and he will almost always have a meaningful piece of knowledge to share.

Outside of Tallwood High School, Mr. Ordonio is a family man and is quite the active person. He enjoys spending time outdoors through hiking and snowboarding, but he also enjoys wrestling from earlier years.

“I was really fortunate to have the opportunity,” said Mr. Ordonio.

Although Mr. Ordonio didn’t expect to teach at Tallwood High School, he has found his spot here. It would be hard to find one person who hasn’t been positively impacted by his compassion and intelligence. Tallwood Lions can only hope they bring him as much good as he’s brought to them.
