The Tallwood Lions wrestling season is here and they are hoping to go all the way.

With the winter season now in session the Tallwood wrestling squad is going full force with hopes of making it to the 5A State Tournament and winning along the way.

“I’m very hopeful, I’m very excited to see what all of our young guys do, we have a really young and talented squad,” said Varsity head coach Edward Whiteman.

While the season is already in effect the team has already participated in matches and tournaments like the NOVA Classic where Josiah Irizarry placed second in the 106 weight class, and Trey TheBarge placing third in the 138 weight class.

Upcoming matches and tournaments include The Virginia Duals, Toys for Tots tournament, the Regionals, and States. The coaches and players are practicing and getting ready for these tournaments and meets coming up.

“I think the results come from how hard the players work in practices and will reflect how they do on the mat,” Edward Whiteman stated.

The Virginia Duals is a big tournament held in the Hampton Coliseum with schools coming in from all over the east coast. The players are ready and stoked about wrestling on the mat in front of a crowd. The players have the opportunity to show off their talent on the mat next to colleges they used to watch.

Lots of young guys are entering the sport at Tallwood and the have a bright future for the next four years. Tallwood is hoping to add to their hardware and their representation this year in one of Tallwoods most talented sports.
