Trainwreck on Taco Tuesday

Marcie Fennell

The accident was not her fault.

Life was a fast train that she never quite had the guts to get off.

Childhood taken away, no time for play.

How can one live happily when their existence is predestined for disarray?

Too many men, too much sin.

Forced to grow up before her body knew how to breathe within.

Their hands in her feminine and her hands hiding her shame.

She grows up gracefully but her light will soon dim.

For it was a Tuesday when she met him.

7 years her junior, his love came easily so her heart she gave away.

Was it his charm, her past, or their mutual disgust for Taco Tuesday?

6 months in, his true colours began to show.

He said she was perfect and everything about him appeared to glow.

But then…

Trainwreck.

His love became obsession, his warm care, aggression.

What did she do to make him so upset all the time?

Was she in love or simply a victim of another crime?

She tells herself “He loves me, just differently.”

She leaves, comes back, but do not think she has not had her epiphany.

Their love is a train, they ride continually, knowing it will crash before its run is finished.

Yet it’s the tracks inside her head that stays replenished.

So, who caused the accident?

The monsters that took her innocence or her love who appears to be the innocent?
