Won’t You Watch “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”

Naomi Rabino

“Won’t You Be My Neighbor” is a film which depicts an honest and touching study of, not only Fred Rogers’ impact on children, but his life. This documentary delves deep into who Mr. Rogers truly was without tainting his wholesome and positive image. Bringing more understanding to the voice behind the puppets and songs.

This documentary on Fred Rogers’ children’s show, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”, which ran from the sixties to early 2000s, delves deep into what he was trying to achieve and what he accomplished. “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” contrasted greatly from children shows at the time. The quiet and slow atmosphere of his show contrasted greatly from the violent and rapid eye-catching visuals of the current decade. Rogers had a very important goal in mind and it was to prepare children for the troubles they will face in life. This ranged from accepting one’s self to understanding how to deal with national tragedies.

2018 has brought many great documentaries including “Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind”. Both films focused on the lives of an individual, particularly ones who were mainly viewed through a screen. These two films uncovered and shed light on the two behind the camera.

Fred Rogers had an immense impact on the children of the next generation. This documentary will only shed more light on his efforts. All in all, everyone who gets the chance to see this film will not be disappointed.
