Homecoming Week a Success

Homecoming week is clear testament to the fact that Tallwood’s spirit is unsurpassed. During this last week, students enjoyed each themed day, the Homecoming game, and, of course, the dance.

On the night of the game, the air was crisp with anticipation, school pride, and Autumn chill.  The game began with Kempsville losing the fumble, and Tallwood quickly took the lead.  By halftime, we were 22 points ahead.  During halftime, Tallwood’s marching band and color guard performed  “Purple Reign.”  The game concluded with Tallwood’s seventh win in a row, with the score at 45-0.

Tallwood celebrated the game at the dance the following night. The night was full of laughter, dancing, and socializing.  Donavon Lea, school dance chairman for the SCA, says, “Everyone enjoyed themselves. There were times when everyone joined together as a student body. It’s what school’s all about.”

The preceding Spirit Week started off with “Sports Day,” in which students got to show off the jerseys and hats of their favorite teams. Following that was “Cradles VS Canes,” where Lions either dressed as a baby or a senior citizen. On Wednesday, the theme was “Twin Day.”  Thursday was “Throwback To The 90s,” which proved to be the most popular among the students. Friday perfectly wrapped Spirit Week up, with “Purple And Silver” as Friday’s theme, which was also the day of the pep rally and the big game.

Hannah Thompson, class of 2020 historian, remarked, “It [Spirit Week] really raises the spirit! It’s a great opportunity for students to have fun without fear of judgement.” On Friday, the school day drew to a close with the pep rally, in which Tallwood celebrated the fall sports, the Class of 2018 won the spirit competition, and the football team got hyped up for the game.

Overall, the Lions thoroughly enjoyed this year’s Homecoming, and are looking forward to next year’s.
