Here’s my college essay:
I have to bestow a quest upon myself that I am dedicated to achieve for my final goal this year: to earn a 4 or higher on my AP exams. Currently, I am enrolled in two AP classes that will continue until the end of the year: AP Biology and AP Government. These are classes that have reputations for being a difficult class, but I am down for the challenge and will push myself to earn this score.
The exams are in the middle of April which is plenty of time to learn, but with how the classes are scheduled, there is so much to learn in a short amount of time. This goal I have set for myself isn’t impossible, but it will unquestionably be difficult.
I talk with my counselor every once in a while, and he helps me with managing how to put together my schedule because it is somewhat hectic. Going to school all day then practicing for another two and a half hours really drains my body, along with the school work that my teachers assign puts such a strain on my body physically that I start to fall behind on my work. My parents also help with this, as they give me the encouragement that I need to keep going and push myself to be the best version of myself that I can. Completing this challenge will be difficult, but I know and believe that I can do it.
Reflection:
Hey junior class, it’s a senior here. Let me give you some advice: Senior year is easy, as long as you make it easy. Early release and late arrival are great, going to senior sunrise is amazing, and graduating with all of your friends is a blessing. In order for those to happen, you need to make sure that you do everything you need to do this year. Other than that, the only other thing you have to worry about is college. Creating your college application and writing your college essay could be stressful, but don’t worry, it’ll be okay. I have a few tips for you that can help you write a good college essay.
First, consider each prompt carefully. Many college essays have multiple prompts that you can choose from. Be sure to pick the one that you feel strongly about or can write the most about. It would not be a great idea to write about a topic you know little about. Once you pick your topic, begin brainstorming exactly what you want to write about. Writing it down on a sheet of paper can help keep your ideas organized and also so they are not forgotten. Once you have selected your topic, it would be a good idea to create an outline of how you want to structure your essay. It’s not required, but it will definitely help you stay organized and keep focus for your essay.
All essays have a word limit with the typical count being 650 words. There are some with fewer and there are some with more. Either way, you want to make sure that your point is clearly and directly stated so your reader knows what the essay will be about. Not having a clear and direct point will leave your reader confused and might cost you your admission. The whole point of writing an essay is to boost your chances of getting admitted to the college of your choice. Not all colleges require an essay, however, it is in your best interest that you do create an essay for the purpose of helping your acceptance chances.
Lastly, as you are writing your essay, be sure to make it colorful and enjoyable to read. Those who are reading your essay won’t enjoy a bland one. Adding vivid details to your essay will make it much more enjoyable to read. But be careful, bear in mind that there is a word count so adding too many details might put you over the word limit and so you won’t be able to finish your paper. Also be sure that you are not repeating the same word a thousand times, switch it up. Using a thesaurus to find a synonym will not be the end of the world, I promise. Being professional is also an important factor for this type of essay. You can’t write this essay as if you are texting a friend, write it as if it will determine your future (because it will).
That’s all there is to writing a great college essay. Brainstorming, outlining, and diving right into the essay. Doing these will help you with all essays, especially one you right for college. Staying professional, adding details, and also proofreading your essay are things you can do to make sure your essay is up to standards for your desired college. If you can successfully complete all of these tasks, then there should be no problem with your essay. Do great next year and good luck!
