The Start of Meek Mill’s Reign
February 6, 2017
All over Instagram and on the Internet period you see memes about Meek Mill taking L’s, about he can’t rap and just bad things in general. Everyone would trash talk him and blankly just say that he sucks. Well, Meek Mill proved that they only hate you when you’re good. On October 28, 2015, Meek Mill’s DreamChasers 4 album came out.
His album consists of fourteen songs. Out of all the songs, three of them got on the top 100 Billboard which: Litty, Froze and Offended. In just the first week he sold over 107,000 copies, and millions of people were streaming the album for free on their phones.
The first song he wrote was called On the regular. He starts off with a heavy and catchy beat to grab your attention. The beat sounds similar to a villain in a movie arriving out of the darkness. Several gunshots go off. The beat goes off and he starts rapping, a great way to start off the album. In the next song, Blessed up, he lets the beat build up like a cake slowly cooking in a oven. He goes off on this song and ends it with a nice and slow breakdown.
Next is Litty ft. Tory lanez. “They don’t to see you win,” was the catchphrase of the album. This is, by far, the best beat Meek Mill has on his album. Meek proves with the song Shine that you don’t have to shout out drugs and pretty looking women to get a hit. The background music is a softly playing piano and drums. Meek is showing us his soul.
On Froze ft. Lil Uzi Vert and Nicki Minaj, his flow is smooth. Meek lets Uzi start off with his hypebeast ways. Meek makes his way on the song and raps with mad rhythm to the beat, and Nicki finishes us off with a short but sweet verse. At the end of her part she attempts to sound like Lil Uzi. Next up we have The Difference ft. Quavo. The song is basically about how he was once poor but now he’s rich.
Meek mixed it up a bit when he created the song Lights Out ft. Don Q. This track is a little slower. This song is nice and quiet but good. It’s been awhile since we’ve only heard Meek on the track by himself so I was glad when he was alone on the song Blue Notes. He sounds so passionate in this song. He’s pouring out his feelings and you can hear the sadness in his voice. It’s so rare that we can hear rappers talk about their struggles, that is what made this song so beautiful.
On the song Way up ft. Tracey T, we’re back on a hit maker beat. They both do a good job with being on the beat and skating through it. On Two wrongs, the song sounds simply soulful, Meek is talking the talk. You can tell by the way he is rapping that this song came from a deep place in his heart.
Next up is the song everyone wants to hear when they listen to a DreamChasers album, Tony Story 3. I can’t really explain the song without explaining the others…. basically Meek made a script out of rap. Last but not least, we have the Outro ft. Lil Snupe and French Montana. He brings so much emotion and has such a ridiculous flow. The background music sounds like music you might hear on a scary roller coaster. Meek takes over his part by coming on and takes off like a rocket, and French finishes it off with a short, sweet verse. There’s no better way to end an album.
The best song of the album would have to be the Shine, by far. In this song Meek explains his childhood. “Wasn’t for this music then I’d probably be dead, instead i’m on top and i’m counting his bread. Sitting in a mansion could’ve been in the feds, drop top even with a price on my head.” This line explains that meek grew up poor and in the streets but music is what kept him alive; “Dedication, put it all to the grind.”
This album shows that Meek is back, and he’s better than he’s ever been. There’s just so much life in the album. This is just what he need to re-enter himself back into the rap world. DC4 is the return of Meek Mill. It is his rebirth and only the beginning of his reign.
