Rescheduled Glow Dance and Spirit Week a Success
January 30, 2017
Last week at Tallwood High School, the students and faculty had their spirit week, leading up to their Glow Dance on Saturday, January 28th.
Tallwood’s spirit week consisted of the following themes: Monday was Neon Day, Tuesday was Disney Day, Wednesday was Preppy Day, Thursday was Celeb Day, and, to wrap up the week, we had Blackout Day on Friday. Spirit week was suppose to be the week of January 9th, but due to the snow days, the spirit week, glow dance, and the pep rally had to be moved.
“The big deal about Glow Dance is we were the first school in the beach to do an event like this. It is such a fun concept,” said Mrs. Kristen Johnson, the SCA sponsor and a science teacher at Tallwood High School. Everyone was excited about Glow Dance on January 14th. Sadly, the date had to change because of the snow, but there was still a bright side to this unfortunate change.
“The date change really helped because it allowed the SCA more to publicized about the spirit days and Glow Dance, which will hopefully mean we have more participation and attendance,” said Mrs. Kristen Johnson. Earlier in the year, the homecoming spirit week was believed to have the most participation in a while. The dance also had a record number of people in attendance. We all hope we can get the same results from Glow Dance and possibly even better.
“We are working very hard making posters to advertise the glow week spirit days and also designing our tickets. A number of other schools from the beach want to attend our glow dance, so we are working hard to make this Glow Dance unique,” said Barrett Miller, senior SCA Secretary at Tallwood High School. SCA officers, executive board, and some volunteers stayed after school Thursday, January 19th to help paint posters for spirit week and the dance.
The spirit week and dance were moved to last week, but the winter pep rally will be combine with the spring one and be on March 10th. This pep rally will honor both Winter and Spring sports.
