Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a novel by Ransom Riggs. The novel tells a story about a boy who, following a horrific family tragedy, follows multiple clues left behind for him which end up leading him to an abandoned orphanage on a Welsh island. During his trip to the Welsh island he discovers very important, yet crazy things about both him and his family.

The series Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is split up into three different books and tells the adventure of Jacob Portman and what he discovers during his trip in a very detailed, enticing way.  While watching the movie, I became very surprised at not only that the small details that were altered compared to the book, but also other major things that were changed.

In the movie, the producer changed major characters and other things regarding certain relationships with different characters in the story. Another thing that was changed in the movie was that the characters weren’t very dwelled upon, and, because of this, the audience wasn’t able to get a good enough grasp of the plot.  Additionally, the marketing for the movie was very unclear. Some people, like myself, who had read all three parts of the series–and expected the movie to just be about the first book– were very surprised when they watched the movie and realized that all three books were a part of one movie.

One of the very good things, however, was the use of special effects when it came to the peculiar children and their peculiarities. The producer demonstrated these peculiarities very accurately with how they are represented in the books, and this definitely kept the audience on the edge of their seats. This helped benefit the movie as a whole, because with any great special effects, comes a great movie.

Overall, the movie Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was a good movie to watch, but some aspects of it may disappoint those in the audience who have read the books.  However, even though the producer did change some major attributes of the novels, the story-line remains basically the same.  Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a great movie when it comes to being entertained, but if your focus is more on the accuracy when it comes to the comparison of the book and the movie, then it would be better if you didn’t spend your money on this one.
