Winter Blues

Zach Coley, Poet

Winds that are blustery and biting

Icy roads and sidewalks. Conditions for driving are bad. Slippery and sliding.

Noses are red stuffy. Coughing and sneezing.

Trees are bare and stark.

Earmuffs, hats, scarves and gloves. Parents want the kids to wear warm clothes.

Rush to the store to get supplies before the storm hits. Shovels, bread, milk, snacks. Fill the pantry. Get gas for the generator.

Big mugs of hot drinks like hot chocolate, coffee and hot tea.

Longing for lazy summer days. No school. Sleeping late. Hanging out.

Ugh! When will it end? Jet skiing instead of snow skiing.

Early starts. We have to warm up the car. It’s still dark outside.

Snow falls and shuts down the city. Everything is closed.
