Things to Know about the Senior Project: An Interview with Mr. Falls

Should you freak out about senior project?

While a majority of academy students fear senior project in its entirety, there is a great deal of teacher assistance involved. A meeting with the rising seniors is held in the second half of junior year to brief students on the requirements of senior projects and explain the papers as well as the actions. All the information is available, Mr. Falls tries to make himself available, and resources from previous years are available as well. So, if you turn in your work on time and put effort in your project, you should do just fine.

Should you start senior project early?

Mr. Falls recommends starting senior project early, but not on everything.  Just start early “in thinking and general research.” It can give you an idea about the way you want to approach your topic and determine just how interested in a project you actually are.

What topic should you pick?

According to Mr. Falls, you should pick a topic you are interested in, something you “want to change or learn about” or something you want to do “as a career or even a hobby.” You don’t want to get halfway through the year and realize that your topic is not something you wish to research in depth.

Why do we have senior project?

The senior project, as said by Mr. Falls, “helps tie together everything you’ve done in the academy.” The format of the research paper is one that colleges use frequently, so often prior students that visit say that the “format of the paper helped with college format.” Mainly, senior project is preparation for college, and if you do research paper correctly, college format should give you less of a hard time.
