Based on the novel of the same name, The Fifth Wave is about Cassie Sullivan’s (Chloë Grace Moretz) life as aliens invade the Earth. She goes on a quest to reunite with her brother when they are separated at a refugee camp, making a friend along the way. The aliens (“the others”) attack in waves in hopes to wipe out the human race. The first 3 waves include power outage, tsunamis, and plague. The 4th wave occurs when the others inhabit human hosts in order to kill the rest of the population. The 5th and final wave involves children soldiers the others try to manipulate.

This post-apocalyptic movie has action packed scenes when aliens fight against humans. This movie is interesting to watch because we get to see how a girl’s life is changed and how she has to put on many responsibilities and gain survival skills quickly.

This movie also has a theme of “what comes around goes around.” The movie shows how aliens take the Earth because they need it and humans did nothing wrong besides living in an area they needed. This relates to humans because we have been doing the same thing.  Stephen Hawking has famously said, “If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans.”

The cast of this movie did a really good job making this movie fun to watch. Chloë Grace Moretz does not disappoint as the protagonist of the movie; her acting was very serious and impressive. Nick Robinson is playing a different type of character then he usually does, and I think he did a great job playing the role of Ben Parish.

This sci-fi movie is a great film in all; I just wish there was a little bit more suspense and depth involved. With all the other numerous dystopian movies out there right now The Fifth Wave does a fair job of being diverse.  I recommended watching it if you like post-apocalyptic movies.
