Bathrooms tend to be the most unsanitary places in the school. Students claim they are disgusted when they go into the bathrooms because the toilet is unsanitary. Many of the bathrooms here at Tallwood High School do not have any sanitary items in the bathrooms. Girls have to bring their sanitary pads from home to use along with other hygienic items.
Here in the Tallwood bathrooms they typically include really thin menstrual pads and tampons, which is not beneficial to girls who may need a pad with more support. I believe students should be able to make recommendations on how to make the bathrooms more inviting.
According to Emily Vaughn, a writer for NPR news: “Additional recommendations are toilets have hooks or shelves to keep personal items and garments off the floor, be accessible to all users, be affordable and available, be well- maintained and accommodate women who are accompanied by children or elders they care for.”( How To Design A Female-Friendly Toilet).
The school bathrooms at Tallwood are also limited in the amount of toilet covers they offer in the bathrooms. Many female students have to squat because of the uncomfortable feeling of sitting down on the toilet.
Including more sanitary items in the bathroom will make the bathroom a safe place for girls to go to and not have to stress about bringing their bags with them to the bathroom. Some girls may face a little embarrassment when bringing their bags with them to the bathroom. I believe more sanitary items will relieve stress and will be more comfortable going to the bathroom.
Another benefit that the bathrooms here at Tallwood should have is better mirrors. The mirrors here are very blurry and you can hardly see your reflection. I believe improving the mirror here will be very beneficial to all students. This will also be better for students to go to the bathroom and look in the mirror instead of using their phones as a cameras.
Lastly, adding air fresheners in the bathrooms will make a significant difference. Sometimes the bathrooms have a disgusting smell when you walk inside. Adding these will make a difference in making more people comfortable to go inside the bathroom.
I think it is highly important for bathrooms to be one of the most sanitary places inside a school because that is where people go to relieve themselves and people should feel comfortable while doing so, instead of worrying about how unsanitary it is.
