Is laughter really the best medicine?

You may have heard that laughter is the best medicine. Well, is it? From a non-health care professional’s standpoint, yes it is. I have found that laughter and good comedy is great for not only feeling happy, but being able to de-stress. Stand-up comedy is great and never let’s up. There are over thousands of videos and clips of stand-up comedians that are hilarious and are plentiful all over the internet. A YouTube channel I certainly enjoy is Dry Bar Comedy. The comedians they find are amazing and are clean and family friendly, which is another plus. I like to watch them whenever I am stressed or even sick home in bed, which is more often than you may think. So, from a doctor’s standpoint, is laughter really the best medicine?

According to the staff at the Mayo Clinic, “Laughter is a great form of stress relief, and that’s no joke……. A good sense of humor can’t cure all ailments, but data is mounting about the positive things laughter can do.” The clinic then goes on to list the great long and short term effects of a good laugh. Some include; Soothing of Tension, Improvement of Immune System, and an Increase of Personal Satisfaction. All of these effects are certainly helpful and nonetheless beneficial towards overall health.

So, indeed, laughter can improve your health, both emotionally and physically. So go on, have a good laugh. Find some comical friends to hang out with, or go online and find some funny people. Watch a funny movie or TV show perhaps. Comedy is certainly a stress reliever, and everyone should have something to laugh about everyday. Laughing can boost anyone’s mood and even enlighten them to have an optimistic view on things as well.

It is always important to laugh and be happy in life. That’s why laughter is so great, it helps to feel good and lighten the mood. So, when all is said and done, at the end of the day, it is nice to be able to have a good laugh, and that is why I and so many others are grateful for it.
