Beneath Us

Carresa Talens-Pagan

The lights shimmered down on her freckled cheek

On an average night of boy and girl playing hide and seek

Laughter and smiles filled the space

But only to be interrupted by her escape

He screamed and shouted for her name

The house didn’t seem like a place for a game

Finally she returned in the sense of despair

With blood and worms all in her hair

She raised her bloody claw and growled with anger

As she killed the boy who never thought he was in danger
