Holiday Short Story

Colton Carpenter

And came the end of another year with the yearly Phoenix Festival. This is an important

holiday to signify the year’s rebirth and has a few parts to it and may last for up to a week. The

main part of the Phoenix Festival is a series of tournaments and competitions to show skills and

such that have survived another year or perhaps have been created in the past year. These skills

may include, but aren’t limited to, fighting based, knowledge based, and recreational based. The

secondary part of the festival is that all shops are required to be closed and everyone should relax

and welcome the coming year by joining in the festival. The exception to this rule include

restaurants and other similar places that have volunteered to help run the festival. Also, the

exchange small gifts to family and friends is a common custom of the Phoenix Festival.

This yearly festival is a wondrous thing for a young boy who wants to make himself

known, as well as anyone else who wants to become known, but this story is about a boy named

Ralph. He is young and has wanted to participate in the Phoenix Festival’s competitions year

after year, but his family has been reluctant to allow him since he is so young. However, for

Ralph, this festival would be different, his family gave him an early gift for the festival. This gift

was a card stating their consent for his participation.

The week of the Phoenix Festival finally came and Ralph, due to enjoying the wilderness

and camping a lot, decided to join the survival race competition. This competition would pit the

efficiency and effectiveness of survival skills against each other, and the winner would have the

opportunity to have his or her survival techniques taught to the world and be credited with it.

This made Ralph excited since he had many original survival techniques. In short, it was a good

challenge for Ralph, but he did not have much trouble winning. He decided he would challenge

himself more the next year and join more of the competition categories.
