It is very difficult to find a new show after you just finished binging a show that had gotten you so attached. You look for hours, days, even weeks to find a perfect and particular show that fulfills your wants and needs. Well now, the stressful “look for show” bid is over. The spectacular and so very addicting Australian series Wentworth is on Netflix and waiting for you to watch.

Wentworth is a fantastic show that contains everything you’re looking for but just simply never paid attention to. It has fighting, drama, death, sex, action and so much more. You will never have an idea of what is waiting for you until you watch the next episode. It will leave you wondering, in shock, happy, upset and it will have your emotions run amok. You know a show is good when you’re on the edge of your seat and biting your fingernails over what might happen next.

Season One starts off by showing the life of prison through the main character’s eyes, Bea Smith. Bea was charged with the attempt of trying to kill her abusive husband and the father to their daughter, Debbie. When she first arrives she meets Franky, a current prisoner who is taking up the position as top dog (top dog is a person in charge of the other inmates) while the real top dog, Jacs was in the slot. The season is all about Bea Smith getting the hang of prison and trying to cope with the fact the her daughter is on the outside with her violent husband.

Season Two begins with Bea Smith learning that her daughter had been murdered by Jac’s son, Brayden, who had been pretending to date her to make it seem like they were in love. Anger took over and she ended up killing Jac’s who told her son to kill Debbie. Bea was struggling to find a reason to live because the reason she had, was dead. She ended up deciding that the only way she would get peace of mind is if she killed the person who killed the person who cut her daughter’s life down, Brayden. The season ended with Bea coming up with a smart plan which lead to her escape from prison and get her revenge on Brayden, she shot him in the head. After the fact, when she was taken back to prison she ended up becoming the new top dog.

Bea ends up getting life in prison, which is expected, on the opening episode of season three. This season is where everything starts to change to a dark but so addicting series. The new governor, Joan Ferguson, the runner of the prison is starting to show her true colors who is a complete insane psychopath. She is a murder and she harms fellow inmates. Bea Smith and Franky try to take her down but Ferguson is one step ahead at every moment. They end up finally getting her on the last episode of the season and it ends up with her going to the prison…. the same prison she had worked at.

Season Four starts with Ferguson being put into protection, for obvious reasons. To make a long story short the season revolves around Ferguson coming up with a brilliant plan to get removed out of prison and get her job back. She is insane and the people around her know this but the proof is limited. She ended up denying justice with the help of many people at the cost of many lives but all that changed when she harmed Bea’s recent love interest. To stop Ferguson from escaping justice, Bea ends up going to confront her, one on one as Ferguson was leaving the prison with a screwdriver. Ferguson ended up overpowering her and taking the screwdriver. In the last few minutes of the season was filled with OMG’s and silence. Bea ended up grabbing Ferguson’s hand and stabbing herself with the screwdriver repeatedly. The season just ended with the biggest cliffhanger that has ever been known. Now the question is, is the character we have known and grown to love…. Dead?

Most people might compare this is to Orange is the New Black, being that it is a prison show and all. However, in all real sense, the only similarities the shows have are that they’re prison shows. The shows are the total opposite, Wentworth is imaginative in ways Orange is the New Black is not. Wentworth is a ruthless, dark drama and shadows how life in prison can truly be. The show is more like Breaking Bad in that the main characters are viewed to have to do “bad things but all in good intentions.”

One of the best things about the show is how dark it is. Dark tragedies in a show is what people look for nowadays in series. It shows you how “superior” people can be but in all they’re just that, people. People that bleed red just like the rest of us and how all of us are equal before the hands of god. The dark sense is what makes you hate to love the show.

In all, Wentworth will pull you in with every little detail it has to offer. After you watch an episode, you will be eager to watch the next episode. It shows that you would never want to go to jail and violently shoves us scenarios of what could happen to us down our throat. Wentworth has won many awards for showing us prison life from a realistic perspective. If you’re ever looking for a show to be addicted to then my advice would be to check this out. You won’t be disappointed, and that’s a guarantee.
