On Saturday, February 11th, 2017, the Chinese delegation traveled to Virginia to begin their experience in the United States with Tallwood High School.

Tallwood High School’s Global Studies and World Languages Academy recently received another set of students from a different country. These students came from Harbin, China.

“I have a 16 year old girl staying with me. Her Chinese name is Zhi’ou Wang but her English name is Shirley. She is a very nice girl who laughs a lot and tries her hardest to help out whenever she can,” said Carmin Berberich, a Sophomore Academy student at Tallwood High School. Just like Carmin, there are nine other Tallwood High School students who are hosting students in their household.

“I enjoy America, it is definitely very different from China,” said Zhi’ou Wang (or Shirley) one of the Chinese delegates. The main idea of having delegates come to Tallwood, or Tallwood students going to another countries, is so we can view our culture differences and learn about them while acquiring a life changing experience.

“We plan on taking her to the beach and the mall so she can shop, on the weekends, and then she is going on a bunch of field trips with the school during the week,” said Carmin when she was asked what was in store for Shirley (Zhi’ou) while she visited The United States. Tallwood High School as well as the delegates’ hosts and hostesses have a lot planned for these students.

Tallwood High School’s Academy students are always excited for this amazing experience because of how special it is to them. “I think it’s important because it’s a good way to experience other cultures and create lifelong friends! It’s a one of a kind experience that is very eye opening and allows you to learn more about the world,” Carmin said.
